Palm Sunday is tomorrow

Flower Sunday too. Photo: Glacier National Park high country meadow.

Palm Sunday is tomorrow.

Kinda sneaks up on you as the global pandemic steals the show.

Time for plan b

Photo: Looking North toward Canada, from Mt Oberlin (8,200′).

Time for plan b.

Ordered a “deluxe” wrist/thumb brace on Amazon yesterday. The wrist inflammation is improving but in hindsight, it’s taking too long. This brace would have been ideal earlier. Better late than never.

Time for (and room for) a second plan b.

Easter.

Two weeks away.

Missing Church because the Covid-19 buzz is distracting our focus on Lent and the Risen Jesus.

Believe in what lights your fire and provides you unexplainable peace – believe in it all the way, as if your life depends on it.

It certainly doesn’t need to be Jesus, but it does need to be something.

If you doubt this now, there will come a time when you are faced with a harsh reality and you are confronting a fear you never imagined. At that moment, you will understand what this post is trying to say.

Secret hack to improve your spirit

Love the juxtaposition between Disney and Glacier National Park (famous red Jammer Bus), at Castaway Cay in the Bahamas.

The secret hack to improving your spirit?

The way to get better is to get better at getting better.

Probably in the first or second week after our son was born, two decades ago, after i awoke and walked down the hall to his room, i would kiss his head and get on my knees and say three significant prayers.

Then i would return to our bedroom and kiss my wife on her head as she slept.

As recent empty nesters, this daily habit is continued without the walk down the hall.

Once a day, everyday, for 20 years.

Seemingly insignificant.

Prior to 20 years ago, i did not start the day on my knees.

Now it’s unfathomable to start any other way.

The reality is this ritual doesn’t take long. For that very reason, how could i ever skip a day?

Ignore the side effects

Long, uphill hikes are metaphors for life. So are stunning views and wonderful hiking partners.

Ignore the negative side effects of a super-busy pace?

Why?

There must be powerful reasons, right?

Powerful enough to ignore long-term outcomes?

(never)

How is that a long-term and vibrant emotional strategy?

It’s not.

You clearly understand this. Well done.

Regret is always possible to reverse. When your ability to forgive yourself, surrender to things you cannot control, and live with gratitude that you can both forgive and surrender, you are free to move forward.

The key to it all is having a willing heart that is open to personal transformation.

If you think forgiveness and surrender are hard to sustain over decades of living, imagine trying to cram for personal transformation after decades of neglect.

Slow and steady wins the race. The long way is the shortcut.

Some notes stay visible for a year

This note moved from the office to the closet where it stayed for about a year. As of today the only version of this note is this photograph.

Some notes stay visible for a year.

Roughly 90% of the time i place a date on a note.

Why?

Dates add hints/clues for recall and context.

Without a date for Steve’s quote, there’s no context for why it was written, where it was discovered, or what season in life was the motivation to write it down.
