The extra blood prompted Dr. Kumar to do an ultrasound to rule out any open wounds.

The great news is the retina is attached and the three retina tear laser repairs are still intact.

Spiritual drive to college

Doc said walking is ok. Nothing strenuous. Walking 20-minute miles is pedestrian. Heart rate consistently under 80 while walking is good.

Driving north of Orlando to get my eye-health update feels like the day that i moved into my college dorm, freshman year.

Feels good spiritually

While it feels good mentally and physically so far, it feels amazing spiritually.

Why?

Because it did from the moment i became ‘blind’.

Immediately accepted worst case.

Still do.

But always hoping for the best to happen.

And the only way that works is to not have an expectation that it will.

Three retina tears, including one that started to detach the retina, are a routine repair for Dr Kumar.

Nothing about this past week is routine.

It is all new.

All scary.

All uncertain.

As each day passes – and this is only day six since losing vision – the future options and outcomes seem slightly more reassuring.

By no means is there any guarantee. None are stated. None are implied.

Hope for the best. Plan for the worst.

Happy present moment.

So grateful to live in the United States, have access to great insurance and first-class (world-class) health care providers.
