A dark, stormy night?

What does your spiritual/emotional belief system provide you with, and solve for, that nothing else even comes close?

If you were in a metaphorical deep dark hole, and you knew you weren’t going to see the light of day, in the darkness who would you talk to?

Religious folk ain’t perfect

Most people have some sort of religion. At least they know which church they’re staying away from.

John Erskine

We are raised with countless imperfections and abundant bias. My goal is to shed as much of it as possible.

Leadership retreat

Why are you feeling ashamed? Who have you disappointed? Who’s rules are you breaking? Someone else’s, or your own?

When you change what you see, what you see changes. Get away and create your own leadership retreat. This is why Glacier is important. Never allow yourself to form or repeat negative scripts. Find a million ways to stay motivated and positive.

Organizational Spirit

West Chester University Sig Ep House
West Chester University Sig Ep House. Lived on second floor for a year.

From a lifetime at Disney, particularly the last 15 years at Disney Institute, i saw first hand from countless (about 2,000) looks inside industries and organizations, that an overwhelming majority are like a ship without a rudder.

No rudder.

No foundational, guiding organizational values.

Rarer still, i astonishingly discovered, are organizations where the values are actually defined, not simply implied.

ORCHIDB

  • Openness
  • Respect
  • Courage
  • Honesty
  • Integrity
  • Diversity
  • Balance

Not until the early 1990’s did we actually have written down leadership values.

A list is a great start, but ineffective without agreed upon definitions.

We did that.

We defined all seven core Disney leadership values.

It changed everything.

For the first time, we all had clear organizational expectations around behaviors.

Behaviors, not human resources concepts or theories.

Perhaps sometime after the Disney Leadership Book is published i will be able to refer you to the page(s) where our ORCHIDB values are explained in detail.

The department of know

That quote stopped me in my tracks yesterday.

The department of know.

The mystery of Faith.

You can’t know what you’ve never seen.

But you can know that Faith, Hope, and Love are three unequivocal human values.

You don’t need religion to convince you, simply use your instinct to imagine the opposites (or absence) of Faith, Hope, and Love.

Humanity doesn’t stand a chance with the opposites.
