The biggest surprises

The danger of falling, or Grizzly Bear (and more rarely, Mountain Lion) attacks makes this place special in a way your local streets will never (hopefully) replicate.

The biggest surprises:

  • The palpable fear
  • The palpable tension
  • The intentional disruption
  • The misinformation
  • The accusations
  • The name-calling/labeling

Writing like you mean it describes my goal of sharing (ideally) short and pithy daily experience with a life insight – for our son, now in college.

It is not lost on me that my days are numbered. It is a driving reason why i have no room in my heart for hate, anger, impatience.

Father, forgive us for we know not what we do.

We all must face our feelings and hopefully reconcile any of them that trouble us. Why? So we can stop carrying the extra baggage.

The over-riding hope

i do not hope to live to be 80-90.

This year i hope to speak with more people that old.

Yet more than any other personal hope, i hope to live in the present moment.

It is 6:00 PM, eating dinner at the desk.

Three posts in and the decision is made to push the cathartic writing about yesterday’s meeting to a future day.

How experienced are you?

Take a 62 year old. They have lived three generations.

Take a 21 year old. They have lived a single generation.

History repeats itself.

Good triumphs over bad.

Always.

Sometimes triumph is painfully slow, yet triumph is always the long-game outcome.

You cannot understand this because all you’ve seen is one generation. Panic when the stock market steeply drops? You, yes.

Don’t panic, not even for a second. Why? Because i’ve been in it for four decades. Stock is a long-game strategy. Long-game takes 30-50 years, not three to five years, let alone a few panically days, weeks or months.
