What Is Love?

The Ride Is For Life

The Ride Is For Life

“Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being “in love” which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.”

-St. Augustine

How does St Augustine’s definition compare with your definition of Love?

Life and love are never easy.  Everything requires work.  Hard work.

Today’s a new day, a fresh opportunity.  Do what you do – with Love.

Or, you could opt to do the opposite. But don’t complain if your results are not what you hope or wish for.

Hard work is the only way.

  1. Teresa Brooker says:

I love this. I heard years ago from a very wise man “Love is a choice”. It changed my thinking drastically. When I need a definition of love, I just look at the cross.

  2. jeff says:

Yes Teresa, Love is a choice. And by God’s Mercy and Grace, we were shown the way.

The way is through Jesus. Simple.

But not easy. I tell Chapin all the time, “God never said life would be easy, just that we would never have to go alone.”

Thanks for visiting and for your comment. Have an AWESOME day! :)
