If necessary, use words when you preach

dandelion shadow
The shadow is not only easier to see when it’s your focus, the shadow becomes crystal clear.

It matters little to walk to do the preaching if not the walking is the preaching.

We forget that our actions speak louder than words.

Seriously, we do.

Facebook rarely elevates anyone’s reputation.

Twitter and LinkedIn can.

Why?

We become more professional when we are onstage.

We let our guard down on Facebook (thinking we are backstage).

Letting our guard down should never paint us as someone different than we are professionally.

Not really.

Why would it?

Who wants to live as two different people?

Courage or comfort, not both

Taking a few Disney toys and a pin to Kuwait (7k miles from home) is easy and scalable on every trip, everywhere.

Brene Brown is a thought leader.

She says that you must choose between courage or comfort, you can’t have both.

She’s smart, no doubt.

Yes and, going to respectfully disagree with the statement.

Why?

While not an intellectual, at 60, coupled with deep and broad Disney experience and especially the Disney Institute leadership expertise, i’ll go up against anyone on personal and organizational vibrancy.

Any. One.

Any. Where.

Any. Time.

Why disagree with Brene’s claim?

Because i have both courage and comfort.

At 60, this is a reality.

So how can i be wrong?

Perhaps what Brene implies is that she cannot have both.

Then, what she says is worth wondering why she doesn’t have courage and comfort and why i do.

Not gifted, and as (formerly) insecure as the next person, yet my life’s work has put me in this position to speak authoritatively.

Weird to say it, but at the end of the day, how is what i have to say anything but true?

The beauty of 60 is that i believe we are both right.

Also at 60, i am certain that we, meaning anyone, believe what we want to believe.

If i were you, i’d believe better choices are available.

For example, courage and comfort.

The Gospel according to Walt

Disney Innovation Keynote Speakers
Preaching the Gospel according to Walt.

The Gospel according to Walt Disney.

That’s what i preach.

Differently than the normal “only practice what you preach”, i only preach what i practice.

Climate change CEO karma

The fine print under the name: “For keeping the magic alive through exemplary performance and commitment to the traditions and ideals established by Walt Disney.”

You are on a path to self-destruction.

You do not have balance.

You confessed it, but it has never been a secret to me.

Not only not a secret, but a glaringly obvious proposition.

When was the last time you celebrated in a significant developmental accomplishment from a direct report?

When is your business (and life) going to slow down.

Here’s what i see coming…

You’re 60, wishing you’d have listened to the whispers.

But you’re never getting that decade back.

Sure your business gave you incredible financial rewards.

Is that feeding your soul in the way you want, at 60?

What example have you set for your children?

Just had a relapse epiphany

Just had a relapse epiphany.

Another blinding flash of the obvious.

Watched a brief clip of Simon Sinek and it hit me what it is about his style that has always felt off to me, but not until watching this clip.

First let me say he’s a brilliant and gifted speaker and storyteller.

The epiphany last night was the revelation of his absence of personal experience examples in his speaking.

As a speaker, it finally made sense.

Be passionate, tell stories, use personal examples.

Two out of three isn’t three out of three and i must ensure to avoid the same industry stereotypical standard.
