Spring Grove spirit

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, left. Paper Mill, right. Baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s. Made great Summer College-job money for two Summers at “The Mill”.
small town Catholic Church
This tiny Catholic Church is directly across from my Grandparent’s row home. After your Great Grandmother Evelyn died, your Great Aunt Jennifer sold the row home, in the late 1990’s.

There are three Churches on Main Street: Lutheran, Catholic, and Methodist.

Your Grandfather never went to Church. Sunday morning was the only opportunity to sleep in. And he deservedly took it.

Don’t recall your “Spring Grove” Great Grandparents ever attending Church. In contrast, your Great Grandmother who lived in Hanover (where i was born) taught Sunday School and reportedly was devoted to her Methodist Church in Hanover. Your “Hanover” Great Grandmother never had a husband that i met. To this day the story is a mystery.

In writing this, it’s a flashback to how absent formal religion was in my life.

We never said Grace before dinner. Never.

We never volunteered for community service. Never.

This seemed typical and i never felt like something was missing.

Best time for great?

Mountain Goat and shadow of a man waving
Hiking a long trail can trick you into trying to make good time. How fast you hike is rarely important. Hiking fast can be important, but not in general.

Some of the best things happen when you’re not busy trying to make something happen.

Best time to worry spiritually

Who’s the most peaceful and content person you know?

Eventually, you should be your answer.

Once again visualize the opposite: anxiety and discontent.

As you can see the predictable life pattern, slow and steady compound interest for peace and contentment. Or slow and steady compound interest on anxiety and discontent.

The beauty with consistent self-reflection is your ability to see the obvious, the familiar, the way – the only smart choice.

Your desire to invest slowly and steadily in honing the good habits and shedding the bad habits is what reaps the harvest from compound interest….peace and contentment.

Peace with who you are.

Content with what you have.

How experienced?

Disney Institute Keynote speaker Jeff Noel with group
Disney Institute interns swear that Jungle Jeff made selfies fun/cool again.

How experienced are you?

Take a 62 year old. They have lived three generations.

Take a 21 year old. They have lived a single generation.

History repeats itself.

Good triumphs over bad.

Always.

Sometimes triumph is painfully slow, yet triumph is always the long-game outcome.

You cannot understand this because all you’ve seen is one generation. Panic when the stock market steeply drops? You, yes.

Don’t panic, not even for a second. Why? Because i’ve been in it for four decades. Stock is a long-game strategy. Long-game takes 30-50 years, not three to five years, let alone a few panically days, weeks or months.

Simple, powerful, true north

Disney Keynote Speaker Jeff Noel with Mickey Mouse
Sometimes we just bump into each other while walking through Disneyland.

Simple, powerful, true north…

Never let your memories be bigger than your dreams.
