What i write about is painful to read

i write about stuff people don’t like to talk about, not even to themselves. And the first person in line to read it is me.

Excuses, regrets.

Why?

Because of the second chances that become available to anyone (especially me) who seriously asks tough questions (like, “Why?”) and vigorously pursues their answers.

Consistently attacked by a busy schedule?

Hang glider failure
On ABC Evening News with David Muir last night, a report of a tourist mishap during a Swiss Alps hang gliding flight.

Hang glider failure
The pilot failed to strap the tourist to the hang glider. It took a while until the pilot could land the aircraft. The tourist broke his wrist on the fall and tore his bicep – how he hung on for so long is a miracle. They were at heights that had he lost his grip he would have died. Was the pilot in a hurry?

The drive to do good is consistently attacked by the pressure and stress of a busy schedule.

It is infinitely easier to succumb to this daily pressure using the three main human go-to responses to reduce or eliminate the friction (pain).

Distraction, entertainment, and medication.

This becomes a habit quickly.

Be careful.

Better to fight it while the fire is small than after it has become a raging wildfire.

Hope holds up the head

Sanibel sunset
Last night.

Hope holds up the head.

The feeling of overall wellness and personal vibrancy that comes from one huge victory that, over years and years, leads to another victory and then another – this is how hope can overpower inertia.

Overcome disability and become a father, then gain a victory against alcohol addiction (and smoking), after that you turn around a life-threatening health scare, and crazier still, quit (officially retire) your dream job after three decades to start your own enterprise.

And if that isn’t enough, you decided a month ago to quit sugar.

To say that i feel these things are crucial to a balanced life is so understated, it almost feels like a joke.
