99 To 1

The Shepherd leaves the 99 to find the 1. Asked to include a lost and dying soul, Larry, in my prayers, this request is now extended out to all of you.

Years ago, Larry’s Father went for a walk. He was found five days later in the woods, hanging from a tree. Ever since, Larry has battled alcoholism, and is currently homeless.

And now, Larry is dying of Liver cancer, and does not know Jesus. My friend has known Larry since 1973, and hopes upon hope to return this lost sheep to the flock before the wolves take him.

It’s Christmas Eve…

Someday Cancer Will Be "History"
Someday Cancer Will Be "History"

Received this email yesterday. This type of email arrives far too often, and I share only a fraction of them here….it’s Christmas Eve…

Dear Men of Holy Family,

I received bad news today that my wife Diana’s breast cancer has returned and the prognosis wasn’t very good. I’m told that when breast cancer returns to another part of the body it is not curable, so we can now only try to control it. She is scheduled to undergo chemotherapy again Wednesday morning in an attempt to lessen the pain and reduce the tumor. If she responds well to this treatment, then we can hope for a few more good years for her. If not, then time is not on our side. Please pray for Diana. Thank you for all of the support you have all given me and Diana during this difficult time.

In The Blink Of An Eye, Life Will Never Be The Same

From a friend:

The precious 3-year old had a cold, which was nothing out of the ordinary for her. Seemed to be doing better, but then was awake all last night. Mom rocked her and gave her juice and then around 5 AM Mom noticed that Alice’s breathing was off. She and her husband were getting ready to take her to the hospital when she stopped breathing and went limp in Mom’s arms. She was gone when the ambulance got there.

On one hand, it’s so extraordinary that she lived for three years, as most trisomy 18 babies don’t live to be born, and of those who are (born), the vast majority don’t live past a few days or weeks. On the other hand, I cannot imagine loving and bonding with a child who you know is dying, and having them with you for three years. They just spent last week in Ocean City. It seems so horribly cruel. The poor little thing struggled every day of her life. She was never able to speak, sit up, crawl……. developmentally she was stuck at two months old. Compared to what Mom and Dad have been through and are feeling right now, any pain in my life seems to pale in comparison
