i’m proud of dad

My wife told me our son said he was proud of me.

He attended a half-day Customer Service and Leadership workshop i delivered for the top 36 executives for a nationwide restaurant company.

Heard this just before bedtime, this morning finds the details still unclear.

Perhaps the day will provide an opportunity for clarity.

Interestingly enough my son, who worked the event, and i conducted an extensive debrief on the 30 minute car ride home.

Epiphany

Who will make us believe balance is possible? Who will teach your children if not you? Photo: Epcot yesterday, American Adventure.

Epiphany.

Yesterday was the Catholic Church calendar’s “Epiphany”.

Epiphanies are rocket fuel.

Here’s to your blast off with new awareness.

Waiting and doing nothing are the twin siblings of self-destruction.

Twenty years into a 30+ year Disney career, i had an epiphany about work/life balance.

Searching unsuccessfully for a role model at Disney, it hit me.

i must figure this out for myself.

These five daily blogs are a manifestation of my strategy and tactics.

Women’s Ivy League

Wow, stumbled upon this photo while searching for an “undaunted” photo. Focus on approach mindset and abandon avoidance mindset.

The seven sisters at one time were seven prestigious Women’s colleges, the female equivalent of the ivy league. Five of those colleges remain all woman schools in 2020.

Goucher College used to be an all woman’s college and was considered the eighth sister, just missing the proverbial cut.

Having visited Goucher college many times, it is inspiring to connect the dots to the feeling you get walking the campus to the original DNA.

That the original 1885 founding DNA still thrives is beautiful to behold and connect with, even though Goucher became coed in 1986.

The big three

Grand circular Church driveway and fountain.

The big three are Faith, Hope, and Love.

But wait, there is more.

Vision, risks, fun.

Maybe blogging differently will keep me writing 5-a-day.

The Disney Temple

Last night at Tokyo Dining, a World Showcase restaurant with a clear view of World Showcase Lagoon. Guests lined up hours before the final show.

The Disney Temple.

The brand loyalty (or is it brand worship?) by Disney’s most affectionate Guests (and Cast Members) is remarkable.

Having been on the inside for 30+ years, my love and admiration is for the team that creates this daily, world-class Magic.

The helpful way i first got to understand how our Guests feel began in 2008 when i purchased my first iPhone, the iPhone 3GS.

Note: Totally aware i talk and write as if i am still a Cast Member. An active Cast Member on the weekly payroll – absolutely not. A retired, 30-year Cast Member with a retiree Cast Member ID card with all the same benefits as a payrolled Cast Member except Backstage access at Guest locations – absolutely yes.

For what it’s worth, i remain a (monthly) payrolled Cast Member through the Disney pension plan.
