Can you be a Christian and claim hopelessness?

Frederick Douglass slavery quote
Would a slave have felt hopeless in 1852?

Can we be a Christian and claim hopelessness?

Seems hypocritical, to my ear anyway.

Christianity is implicitly designed to be the antidote.

If we don’t feel close to God, guess who moved?

Right?

Or am I missing something?

Jeff,

No, you didn’t miss it. You nailed it. But you are right – if you are a Christian and feel hopelessness, it isn’t because He distanced Himself from you, but the other way around.

Bob, the main reason, in my humble opinion, that Christians often seem like hypocrites is because we often are – when we allow ourselves to display the weakness the devil is constantly badgering us with – doubt.
