The Other Side

Progress is the new caffeine

Lake McDonald at dawn
This view is from the motel room bed. Pure energy to wake up to this view.

Progress is the new caffeine.

Progress with your spirit.

Progress with your work.

Progress with your home organization.

Progress with your positive attitude.

Progress with your health.

It’s only impossible until you taste it the first time.

Stuff We Do

Read so they want to watch

Walt Disney World Main Street at Halloween
Kinda scary to think you should be able to convey the passion of iconic Biblical figures.

Most people are conditioned to follow along in the missal while the Lector reads.

Why?

Shouldn’t the focus be on Saint Paul or Jeremiah?

Shouldn’t the reader be speaking in a way the requires no textbook?

Why not just ask everyone to (silently) read the scripture to themselves?

Try to imagine the time, place, audience, and context in which the original person said those things.

How Can You Tell?

Break the Internet?

Orlando Diocese Men's Rise Up conference
There are very few overnight successes.

Word for word, copied and pasted from yesterday’s Seth Godin blog post.

Change, real change, is the result of focused persistence.

It’s easy to get a bunch of people sort of excited for a little while.

The challenging part, and the reason that change doesn’t happen as often as it should is that we get distracted. Today’s urgent is more urgent than yesterday’s important.

The concept of breaking news and the crisis of the day proves my point. If the world ended every time Wolf Blitzer implied it would, we would have been toast a long time ago. The organizations that actually change things are the ones that have a time horizon that’s longer than 36 hours.

There are very few overnight successes. Very few entrepreneurs, freelancers, non-profits, candidates, spiritual leaders, activists or people in a successful relationship that got there with thunder and lighting. It happens with a drip.

PS this post is intentionally disfigured in honor of Break the Internet. I’m annoyed that we have to continually fight this fight, but it just proves my point. Drip by drip.

Keep showing up. If it matters, keep showing up.

(Ok, this is the end of Seth’s post. Below the page break, my post.)

Ok, here’s my contribution to jeffnoel.org today…

The long way is the short cut.

Stop looking for quick fixes or to hire someone to do your most important work.

Walt Disney and Steve Jobs did not appoint someone to create their legendary organizational culture.

You get where this just went, right?

Dear Son

When you relentlessly look for light in the spiritual darkness

Homeless sign in Philadelphia
Gave Cory some money and spoke with him for about five minutes or so. From this i coined, “Beyond Hunger”. Beyond hunger is where you find enlightenment. Those who are well have no need for a Physician.

When you relentlessly look for light in the spiritual darkness be prepared.

Be prepared.

For a breakthrough.

Dear Son

Common sense but not common practice

American Flag blowing in the wind
God bless America, and God bless patient parents.

Patience is a virtue.

It was a risk to make him go to Track & Field practice two months late.

But after only two days of practice (the first was coincidently team photo day and no physical practice) he is willingly going to this morning’s practice.

Did i mention today is Saturday?

Did i mention he “hates” sports?
