Fingers crossed for one of the August days.

Nature is a Church for everyone.

All those decades when i wasn’t sitting under a Church roof, well, i actually was, but didn’t recognize the sky as the roof.

Nature is a perfect testimony that there is something greater than our mortal understanding can fathom. The mystery of Faith summarizes our inability to understand what we cannot see.

To which i say, go outside, look (and see) and focus on the vastness of Earth’s horizon, or the complex elegance of any insect’s body.

Was the Priest really surprised?

The Baptism of the Lord
This is a big deal in Christianity’s early history. Two days ago, January 13, 2019.

Was the Priest really surprised?

While delivering his Sermon a few days ago, he reached a point where he asked the entire congregation, “Are you on fire?

Crickets.

He asked a second time.

A few crickets woke up, but an overwhelming lack of outward expression.

Leaning over, i asked my Family, “Would you have been embarrassed if i had shouted?”

“Yes.”

In a generally conservative, subdued Catholic Mass, it’s challenging to expect an audience to go from zero to 60 in the blink of an eye.

So Father John’s surprise surprised me.

Will “The Church” embrace digital disruption?

Church and digital transformation
As the two collection baskets passed, i wrote the idea that had come to me as i let go of the second basket.

Will “The Church” embrace digital disruption?

On the photo’s right is me thinking about having a collection app on our phone for when the donation baskets (one for the Church and one for Stewardship) come to us.

This would give the physical signal that we have taken action.

Currently, we automatically give electronically every three months (once a quarter). So when the baskets come to us, we don’t do anything except pass them ahead. It appears as if we don’t give.

PS. The acronym NYE in the photo above stands for New Year’s Eve.

Yesterday was New Year’s Day for the Catholic Church – the first Sunday of Advent.

Our Priest asked the congregation if we had celebrated NYE the night before.

His point, most of us were unaware.

But we are certainly aware of the secular NYE celebration opportunities.

What if we were equally, if not more, aware of the beginning of the Messiah story?

How Can You Tell?

Church and community are synonymous

clarity request
Yesterday’s email exchange with a CEO. Dear son, i’m sharing what i see.

Church and community are synonymous.

If this was the only reason you attended a regular service, you’d be in better emotional shape.

Busy...Dreadfully Busy

Habits make who you become and who you stay

Sheraton Baltimore North
On this Sunday morning, 1,000 miles away from home, we are not attending a church service.

Habits make who you become and who you stay.

What holds you back from starting every day in prayer?

And what, if anything, would allow this habit to succeed or not succeed?

All you have to do is spend one minute (or more), in some way (bended knees?), soon after you awake.

How hard is that?

Why aren’t you doing it?

Ps. Assuming you aren’t. i was born at night, but i wasn’t born last night.

Pss. Probably the biggest ROI for the 60 seconds you spend.
