Can we manage while our anchor is away

seeds in clay ball

Will the flowers sprout before she returns home?

Cheryl flew to Disneyland yesterday morning. For work. Tough life.

The next two weeks, Chapin and i will manage our daily routine with a 33.3% workforce reduction.

The things we’ll miss, that Cheryl does, have to be accounted for and handled.

And all the while, we must remain in thriving mode, not surviving mode.

Is this possible?

If we have great habits going into the reduction, no problem.

If we don’t, well, you do the math.

(Update 30 days later, the seeds haven’t germinated.)

Creativity has no option but to flourish.

Literally devastated with the realization the pain has some deeply-rooted, still undiscovered cause.

Meanwhile, life goes on.

Bicycled home, ate breakfast, and then biked to Magic Kingdom to get Mickey Mouse birthday buttons for the Family.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

When do we surrender and let go?

Nursing Home resident room
A bed, a chair, a TV, a bathroom, a window, and a curtain for a wall. Three meals each day, 24-hour nursing care.

Most people wait for someone else to go first.

Walked over to visit with the 90-year old in the adjacent Nursing Home.

Just me and Johnny.

Johnny’s roommate was out, so we had privacy to do whatever we wanted.

Had intended to initiate “deep conversation”, but after arriving, i thought, “This will be so predictable and it has never worked.”

Instead, i just sat for two hours and watched the Clemson (#1) versus Oklahoma (#4) College Football semi-final playoff game. i added a lot of commentary (which is uncommon for me) and we had a very good time.

i wondered if he had hoped i would have gone with deep conversation.

i’ll never know.

i’ve surrendered and live with this being ok.

Can we be in two places at the same time?

Christmas Eve on September 15.

What does this mean?

i’m sitting in a Best Western Valparaiso hotel room, writing the five daily, differently-themed blog posts like i have every day for the past 2,358 days.

Somehow over the past 6.5 years i’ve written a 100-day surplus of posts on all five websites.

This one, being written on September 15, will post on Christmas eve.

Whatever you celebrate, may you find peace, joy, love, and hope in it.

Abundantly.

Beyond measure.
