Blessed Beyond Measure?

Let the first thing be

Blue wild flower
Flowers during a Finland trip. Same flowers you see in Glacier National Park.

Let the first thing be, upon awakening, thank you.

So cliche.

Say thank you to start your day.

Up to you.

Proud of you for the way you honor such a simple, initial, daily habit and ritual.

Asterisk moment

Grateful to be able to bend down to ground level.

Asterisk moment.

Mid Life Celebration’s post today made it sound like everyone can make an endless list of things to be grateful for.

You agree with this right?

It dawned on me that there might be a chance some of us could feel this isn’t true.

  • You have a device to read this from
  • You have internet connectivity
  • You have eye-sight to read
  • You have time to read
  • You have hands to type
  • You have a body that removed itself from your bed
  • You have a bed
  • You have a dwelling
  • You have a roof over your head
  • You have heat and cool air at your command
  • You have running water
  • Your water is clean
  • You have an indoor toilet
  • Your toilet works

  • You have the gift of today in front of you
  • You have no one to tell you what to be grateful for
  • You live in a first world country
  • You are able to bath yourself
  • You have a washer and dryer to maintain clean towels
  • You may not like your job, but you have a job
  • You have things in your job that are worth doing
  • You have paved roads to get to work
  • You have infrastructure like traffic lights, stop signs, greenways, sidewalks, pedestrian crosswalks, police, speed limits, tow trucks, gas stations, even car washes, school crossing guards, etc, etc.
  • You have a mind, a body, a spirit, a job, and a home
  • You have a device which can access all the world’s knowledge

Please don't tell me

Emotional judgement

Infinite scrolling from social media has us trained to judge faster.

We move through updates quickly.

Why?

It’s literally the only way to “keep up”.

And we generally judge. You are probably an exception, but most of us make judgements continuously.

Judgement leads to exhaustion.

Stop judging, start recuperating.

Eventually freedom not only pays us a visit, but freedom ends up moving in with us.

But we have to curb social media.

Curb as in probably not partake.

If your goal isn’t impossible, you’re not reaching high enough.

Celebrate everything

Disney Cast Member years of service celebration.

Seems ridiculously simple.

What?

Celebrating everything.

You know, being grateful and all of that.

Please make sure near the top of your list of celebratory things is you.

Once a year is better

No breeze at 6:30 AM yesterday.
On yesterday morning’s pre-sunrise walk, a moment to admire our neighbor’s front yard. John is a Marine and was a Gunner in Vietnam.
Later yesterday.
John is proud of his service to our Country. Old Glory fueled by a warm November breeze.

Veterans Day 2019 was yesterday.

One day a year to honor our Veterans seems disproportionate to the blanket of Freedom we sleep under every night.

Here is a way of realizing that honoring our Veterans once a year is better than not having an official day…and what you might do starting November 12, today…

We come to know the true meaning of Veterans Day when we learn to celebrate it every day.

Hate the war, love the warrior.
