Big shoes to fill

Big shoes to fill.

What?

My office bookshelf is filled with Walt Disney inspiration. There are a few Steve Jobs, Glacier National Park, and Seth Godin items too.

And then there’s little old me.

An insignificant army of one.

What will we do with our remaining time on Earth?

Big shoes need to be filled by somebody.

Why not you?

Especially if you can have fun doing it and if it doesn’t feel like work.

My next is getting inspiringly clearer

Jeffrey Gitomer’s email message arrived yesterday. To which i have been espousing this personal mantra since 10th grade (1975), “Repetition is the mother of all learning.”

My next is getting inspiringly clearer.

Do you have a “next”?

What is your next?

Congrats on having an immediate answer. That’s a powerful self-signal.

My next is a three-year goal from June 8, 2019 to June 8, 2022. This means i’m five months into it already.

It is a reprise of the audacious and inspiring 10-year goal from June 2009 – June 2019.

What is inspiringly noteworthy is the fact that i’ve already made peace with life from that decade-long goal to do everything in life i wanted to if i lived only to my 60th birthday.

No male on my dad’s side lived past 60. i am the first.

This “next” is sharper, more poignant, and 70% shorter, making the urgency heightened.

A deadline (urgency, if you will) is a remarkable decision-making tool.

There’s no time to put things off.

Saying no, saying maybe, or saying later is no longer acceptable.

This inspires the heck out of me.

Fully grounded in reality?

Disney Keynote Speakers
Strength in numbers, right? We are more alike than not alike.

Today’s all-day session will begin with an hour of client-led content and then i lead the second piece that takes us to mid-morning break.

The first thing i share after saying good morning pleasantries is this, “Everyone in this room, myself included, is in one of three places. Going through a hell no one knows about, just came out of a hell no one knew about, or is, unbeknownst to them, about to go into a hell no one will know about. And some of us are in two, possibly all three of these places. So please know when i start talking about Magic, pixie dust, and excellence, i’m fully grounded in reality.”

Organized just enough to do a few remarkable things

Central Florida Thunderstorm
Red Dirt Road in Clermont, Florida. Last night.

Organized just enough to do a few remarkable things.

Counting my days has been transformational.

My deadline to do everything in life i want to do is June 8, 2019.

Living like there are no days available to me after that date.

Weird.

Unusual.

Obsessive?

Compulsive?

Freakish.

Not to me.

The one word i keep coming back to is this, transformational.

It’s been following me for a few days and needs to be addressed

It’s been following me for a few days and needs to be addressed.

i can sense the personality differences between two people that are working closely with me.

There seems to be two obvious choices:

  1. Get stuck in the middle and become co-dependent.
  2. Stay out of it, but be clear that it needs to go away or someone will no longer fit on the team.

Hard choices.

At this point in life, clear expectations and clear accountability provide peace and contentment.

Life is too short to tolerate unprofessional behavior brought on by issues that are an adult’s responsibility to manage.

PS. Did i mention that in 10 days i turn 57. To remain true to a crazy, heretical dream, i will be living the final three years of a life redesigned to accomplish absolutely everything i want to accomplish based on an artificial deadline of my 60th birthday. This dream officially began on my 50th birthday, allowing for a decade to do everything in life without any regrets – using a “real” deadline to promote decision making (that would inevitably get postponed for “later”).
