Two Disney storyboards begun on a short two hour flight

Disney Employee Culture Book
Always the over-achiever, Disney culture had me begin the second Disney book’s storyboard.

Got a 30-day jump start on the second Disney book about Employee Culture.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

The transformative difference between training and development

Disney Institute Team in Detroit 2011
Stumbled upon this 2011 photo from a Disney Institute engagement in Detroit. Development can be as simple as encouraging others to have fun while they work.

The transformative difference between training and development.

Huh?

If you’ve never worked inside a world class organization like Disney where the difference is called out and leveraged, you most likely have no idea the difference exists.

You may think training and development is the same thing.

Rookie mistake as it were.

Here’s the simple difference:

  • Train for compliance (meeting high expectations).
  • Develop for commitment (exceeding high expectations).

Clearer now?

Great Disney leaders are architects

Disney Customer Service Advisor
Colorado State University during my final Summer (2014) as a Disney Institute Keynote Speaker.

Great Disney leaders are architects.

Culture comes down to the collective habits of the entire organization.

Habits are operationalized through your human resources processes: hire, train, inspire, value.

A world-class culture is intentionally architected by design, not something that happens by default.

Culture is what people think and do without thinking.

When done with great intention, it results in organizational vibrancy.

It facilitates long-term competitive immunity.

Is it a Disney Dream come true?

Sunrise from DCL ship
The first sunrise on the very first (besides the trans-Atlantic journey) cruise out of Port Canaveral. The Disney Dream was only 50% occupied to give the staff some breathing room.

i can tell that it’s going to be challenging to adjust the way i write every morning.

With the impossible insanely ambitious goal of writing a “Disney” business book every 30 days for the next seven months, i could really use the two hours every morning to write books instead of blogs.

But i’ve invested a minimum of two hours every single day writing five daily, differently-themed blog posts for seven consecutive years.

That’s going to be a tough habit to break.

If ever there was a day to rejoice it’s today

The Ledge at Willis Tower
One of the scariest things i did was stand out on the ledge 103 floors above Chicago’s street level.

OMGosh, the tomb is empty.

Today is Easter Sunday 2016.

This means there are only six days before the official launch (April Fools Day) of me writing seven Disney books.

Make no small plans…remember?
