Similarities between Facebook and the Church parking lot

Holy Water at Catholic Church
The Sun’s light or the Son’s light?

A tree does not grow overnight, but it does grow. Patience is key. And judgement has no place here.

Tomorrow, April 6, 2015 is Easter.

Yesterday was Good Friday.

And the predictable phenomenon of the flood of Facebook sentiments.

Church parking lots will no doubt overflow tomorrow.

It’d be great if this was sustainable the other 50 weeks (same thing happens at Christmas) of the year.

Someday?

Maybe.

Until then, hurry up and don’t wait.

And we are constantly being asked to pray

Windermere Events city sign for summer events

Our Facebook feeds are constantly delivering sad news about people we care about.

And we are constantly being asked to pray.

What if we actually did pray constantly, without any reminders from Facebook?

It Almost Offends Me

But I catch myself feeling like maybe I’m being judgmental, and that feels hypocritical.

So you’ve seen this recent thing on Facebook, “Let’s see how many true Christians are on FB! Press Like if Jesus is your Savior!!”

Really!?

If I were a non-Christian, it’s stuff like this that makes alienating Christians just a little bit easier.

Certainly the intention is not to do harm, but imagine, “Let’s see how many true Muslims, Jews, atheists, are on FB. Press Like if you believe Jesus was not the Son of God”.

Personal leadership is one of the most difficult things to practice, because we are human – weak and insecure.

Blind Spot?

Facebook is a very helpful tool. A window into the lives of our friends and family. And oftentimes an entertaining diversion from the real-world pressures.

You probably saw our son’s Guest Blog post about what Easter means.

He’s nine, and gets it. Easter is the most significant day in history.

Ever. Period.

There are surely skeptics out there who are thinking, “He’s a kid, let him enjoy chocolate and Easter basket stuff.” Got it covered:

Couldn’t Do It

Couldn't Do It
Couldn't Do It

Couldn’t watch TV yesterday.

This isn’t a stretch for me because I rarely watch it anyway.

But I hear about it on Facebook, Twitter and emails.

And it comes as no surprise. Humanity always wants to help during disasters.

Haiti.

Devastation. Suffering.

Faith. Hope.

What good does God do when disaster happens?

You have an answer, right?
