One match fire

As a young teenager, was taught to (obsessively?) build a one-match fire.

A simple vision: you may one day find yourself in a survival situation where a fire is the only thing that will keep you alive overnight.

Plan for worst case scenario, and, you only have one match. The fire has to start before the match goes out or you could die.

Life or death situation.

It has to succeed.

You don’t get a second chance.

Zealot?

Let’s hope so.

From the mouth of babes

Hiking down from Reynolds Catwalk we heard two six-year olds say:

We are going to be Besties forever, even when we’re dirt.

Need to remember this for Valentine’s Day.

Also yesterday…

18-second video: Hey buddy, i love you!

Hey bear

While sitting outside the airport waiting for Jody Maberry, i spotted this plate.

Hiking in Grizzly bear country is a serious endeavor.

We hope to have some serious (and spiritual) encounters today.

Making noise is a recommended way to alert bears to your vicinity. It may also have them disappear in advance of your arrival – with you never knowing they are there.

What a difference a year makes

37-second video: Yesterday was exactly one year ago to the day, September 30.

Procrastinating excels at exponentially growing your to-do list to the point of chronic overwhelm.

Chronic overwhelm robs you from being present.

Chronic overwhelm dilutes the quality of your work.

Here’s to hoping you are better, stronger, wiser, and more resilient from Covid-19’s devastating ambush on humanity.

Wake up calls, in jeff-land, are considered celebratory gifts. Published a book about it in 2013.

Front row pew

Missing Cheryl happened long before yesterday.

The good news?

We wasted nothing the past three weeks.

If i started a list of all i’m grateful for from her visit, pretty sure i wouldn’t be able to stop writing.
