I’m Drinking Again

Drinking everyday actually. However, this drinking is a good drinking.

Drinking in the small, daily moments of joy.

They are often fleeting moments. Often unnoticed moments.

Do you catch a handful of these? Everyday, I mean?

Yesterday, United States President Obama. Today, Orlando’s jeff noel.

Different people, same word.

Sobriety.

December 31, 2001. New Year’s Eve. The biggest “drinking day” of the entire year.

But not this day, December 31, 2001. Not this man. Not ever again.

Sobriety.

jeff noel – Blessed & Stressed

jeff noel, blogger, average guy, Father, Husband, teacher, is blessed and stressed after yesterday.

Blessed because I am all those things.

Stressed because I am not all those things.

Yes, my wife and I conducted an excellent Children’s Liturgy of the Word yesterday. Yet stressed, because at the afternoon birthday party, I realized there is a long way to go with helping our son work through his competitive nature.

He actually has a gift. We all do, don’t we?

Some us simply need help unwrapping it. Now, where did I put those scissors.

The Joy of Dying

Is there Joy in dying? Is there Joy in death?

There certainly is Joy in birth and obviously Joy in being born. Right?

In the past 30 days, I’ve been exposed to nearly one dozen deaths. And these deaths have involved people close to me, or people close to people I’m close to. Ya with me?

Just yesterday, a good friend told me how peaceful the death of her family member was.

It started with tragic news, and there was little time to accept and deal with the impending reality.

And yet in the end, she spoke of it being Peaceful. Joyful.

Perhaps, with a little (or a lot) planning, death will be something we don’t fear, but something we view as simply part of life. Not to be feared, but to be embraced.

Maybe then we can look forward to it. Joyfully.
