There are so many interpretations

Disney Customer Service Speaker
Humility goes against survival of the fittest.

There are so many interpretations for humility.

You probably won’t get any “humility” credits for driving an old car.

Probably not for wearing simple clothes.

Probably not for being kind, generous, and hopeful.

i picture Jesus only carrying what he wore.

So unassuming.

So transformational.

Was i supposed to feel compassion and pity?

Louisville sunset
Sunset last night from hotel room.

Was i supposed to feel compassion and pity?

Asked a worker yesterday, “How’s life been treating you?”

Him: With a heavy sigh, “I’m working two jobs.”

Me: “Sorry to hear that. Hang in there.”

The long walk home (to the Omni) last night i rethought the conversation and wished i would have asked, “How many hours are you working?”

Why?

Because a gut feeling says the number of hours i spend working is equal to or greater than his combined two-jobs total.

He never asked, “So what about you?”

i pray especially focused prayers for people who feel like a victim. The prayers revolve around them discovering gratitude as a weapon to fight against “feeling sorry for themselves”.

Additionally, the prayers focus on “the victims” being more aware and empathetic to everyone they encounter. Why? It’s helped me over the course of my life and i am convinced it will help almost anyone.

Humble Servant

Disney Streetmosphere
Yesterday at Epcot. Muppets are servants. No?

Years ago, i took my (masterpiece?) 247-word vision-mission statement and rewrote it to one word.

Servant.

Immediately, the thought of serving with selfish motives hit me.

So i immediately added a second word.

Humble.

From 247 words to two.

Humble servant.

With one month from finishing a nine-year run of prolific blogging, and the reality of starting the 10th year…

Humbled.

Beyond anything i can put down in words.

Impossible comes to mind.

Yeah, this is simply impossible.

And yet, here we are.

Humble yourself to opportunities and you shall receive

Gaping Void Art
Serendipitous Gaping Void (my fav cartoonist Hugh McLeod) cartoon yesterday.

Humble yourself to opportunities and you shall receive.

They qualified for my best keynote Speech fee because:

  • It’s in Orlando
  • There are no travel expenses
  • They paid 100% upfront

However, their contracted speaker’s fee was only a third of my best, local price.

And therefore, i wasn’t gonna be a possibility for them, even though they were desperate.

And they were seriously desperate.

Sixty people with plane tickets coming in for the annual conference.

i picked the right thing to do.

Their fee was honored – a price i would never accept normally.

We had less than 24 hours to make this work.

i worked hard to make it work.

They needed a hero.

Knowing this, how could i deny them?

Jay jay, blue jay, small j

Disney Birthday button
You know how to tell if someone wrote this for me?

i don’t capitalize my name, not even the j.

A daily reminder to live in humility.

It began years ago while i was still at Disney.
