Intentionally took him to Publix well before Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew Orlando
20 minutes after arriving at our house, i took our son to Publix. He has only a vague memory of the 3 hurricanes in 6 weeks from 2004.

Hurricane Matthew Orlando
We needed milk and could use a loaf of bread. It looks like she’s having a hard time deciding even though the choice is obvious.

Hurricane Matthew Orlando
We were not in a hurry and we were not stocking up. i had been away for 4 days…we also needed milk, bananas and eggs.

As i was paying our $35 bill, our son tapped me to turn around to see the next aisle.

Intentionally took him to Publix well before Hurricane Matthew.

Why?

So he could see what it’s like when we react at the last minute.

Had been gone for four days and when i returned home, all we needed was milk, bananas, and eggs.

He also got to see the massive lines at the gas station, even though we were not under an evacuation order.

Praying for all those who are experiencing a horrifying situation

Teenager's empty bedroom
Had a moment yesterday morning.

Had a stunning moment yesterday at 5:08am.

With our Son on a Washington, DC High School trip, his bed is empty.

There are some routines that are hard to break.

In continuing my morning routine of kissing his head as he sleeps and then getting on bended knees for three morning prayers it hit me…

When tragedy strikes a family, life can change overnight in a way that can haunt you for the rest of your life.

In the horrifying thought of him never being in this bed again, i was reminded why i do that morning routine without fail.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

No one builds a reputation on their intentions

Homemade stir fry
Yesterday morning i didn’t tell Cheryl i was making stir fry for dinner. Instead, i texted a photo at dinner time.

A person who is well has no need for a physician. Was reminded shortly after waking this morning that Jesus came to help the poor in spirit.

In a hard-to-explain way, i write to do the same thing.

Our son (15) began blogging again last night after a two-year hiatus. But first he deleted every post he wrote since 2008. i told him not to announce that “I’m blogging again, blah, blah, blah”.

Rather, i suggested that he write, and at some point in the future announce it.

Don’t tell us what you’re gonna do. Tell us what you’ve done.

No one builds a reputation on what they’re gonna do.

What separates successful people is a very simple habit

Successful people have learned to be intentional where the majority aren’t.

It’s easier to stay home and relax, or tinker with homeowner chores, than make the two-hour commitment to attend 8:45am Mass on Sundays.

One parent is in a Pennsylvania Senior Nursing Home facility, celebrating her Dad’s 89th birthday today and her Mom’s 92nd in two more days.

They’ll watch Super Bowl 49 tonight.

Time to invest three hours watching TV, but not go to Church?

Intentionality is about teaching children, by example, that balance requires thought and planning and goals.
