Is it ok to break the law when it suites you?

Lent reading
Yesterday morning (3rd Sunday of Lent) Father John (standing in background) said the bottom left is his favorite reading of all time.

Notes on church donation envelope
Had an idea and wrote it on our weekly donation envelope. .think .differently about leadership, engagement, service, connection, improvement.

Is it ok to break the law when it suits you?

What?

Right, it sounds like an obscure question, until it isn’t.

Do you drive the speed limit all the time?

Check me if i’m wrong, but speed limits are backed by scientific research to determine the safest speed on a particular stretch of road.

Safest meaning it saves lives and minimizes physical damage.

Yet i don’t know a single person who always drives the speed limit.

So i stopped exceeding the speed limit years ago.

i couldn’t stand my hypocrisy.

And, driving the speed limit reduces stress in unimaginable ways.

How poor must you be before you can stop serving others?

JFK quote
Was oblivious to JFK’s death anniversary yesterday, November 22, 2017.

How poor must you be before you can stop serving others?

As we age and decline, at what point should serving others become a one-way street?

May we all find the balance

Disney Institute Keynote Speakers
Never imagined, nor dreamed of, being a professional speaker and executive coach. Never. Ever. Photo: 2014, Texas.

May i (may we all) find the balance between pushing myself versus pushing others.

When you push yourself, you are perceived by many to be ambitious and determined. You might also be perceived as inspiring (or a workaholic).

When you push others, you are being perceived by many to be condescending and judgemental. You might also be perceived as egotistical (or a meddler).

Find the balance.

i’ve spent a lifetime (including yesterday and today) identifying my blindspots, inconsistencies, and flaws.

There was a time when it was painful. Now i thrive on it.

Not everyone is in this place. Not everyone has a desire to ever go there.

Find the balance.

Surrender to the Universe and follow your heart, striving always to stay humble and kind.

Being perfectly imperfect, i continue to work hard to be an example and not a warning.

Prayed that i would (and will) remain humble

Jon Gordon speaker
Watched Jon speak yesterday. We talked for about 15 minutes prior to his speech. Super nice guy.

It’s easy for a competitor to judge their competition. It’s human nature to get defensive as well as to inflate our own self-worth.

Stay humble. Stay positive. Stay focused. Stay driven. Have fun. And serve, and speak, like you mean it.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Please forgive me for being a hypocrite

Eagle Scout ceremony
Yesterday afternoon’s Eagle Scout Ceremony.

Please forgive me for being a hypocrite. i try hard not to be. Being a teacher, i should be living the ideals as an exceptional role model.

But alas, i’m only human.

Perfectly imperfect.

As tempting as it constantly is, let no judgement or opinionated thought permeate my being.

Ever.

Lofty?

Heck yeah.

Impossible?

Maybe.

Maybe not.
