How spiritual will 2018 Glacier trip #5 be?

The Cottages at Glacier
Staying in two of these for a total of four days. The Cottages at Glacier are adjacent to Glacier’s East entrance. Arrival in T-minus 8 days.

How spiritual will 2018 Glacier trip #5 be?

And, does a spiritual experience elevate our work?

The seven-night trip will involve six different lodging reservations. Only once do we spend two consecutive nights in the same place.

The Lake McDonald Cabin i reserved isn’t an option this trip due to forest fires and mandatory evacuations.

Bottom line, the west side access to Logan Pass is closed.

It would be a three-hour one-way trip from the Cabin to Logan Pass.

Imagine six hours round trip car travel just to get to a trailhead to hike.

Imagine all the lost writing time due to the exorbitant time spent driving.

Peace in your soul, joy in your spirit

Glacier National Park
One of the last things you see.

Peace in your soul, joy in your spirit.

The Summer of 2018 is one for the record books.

Stuff We Do

Every living thing is part of the food chain

trash cans
One person’s trash is another’s treasure and vice versa.

Every living thing is part of the food chain.

Every living thing knows what will eat it.

And every living thing knows what to eat.

Been this way since time began.

But.

Humans transformed this when we started to become civilized.

We essentially evolved to the top, assuming we have pushed the wild far enough away – yet as soon as we venture to wild places, we revert to our designated place in the food chain.

With great privilege comes great responsibility.

Also, we can be reminded what the food chain makes painfully obvious – people in our life are a gift and they can be taken away at any time for any reason.

Dear Son

If we don’t gloss over what happens around us

Red Tailed Hawk in yard
Yesterday while on a client call…

Sitting at my office desk, looking through the window shade, provides a great view of our front yard.

While talking to a Michigan client yesterday, i watched the Red Tailed Hawk (above) fly down from a tree with a fresh catch in its talons.

My guess is it was a baby squirrel.

Whatever it was, it was limp and much bigger than a mouse.

While nature is, in reality, brutal, it is also a literally perfect ecosystem that has been in place for millions of years.

What can we learn from this and how can we apply it to our daily lives?

The gift of life is not guaranteed.

Live like you mean it.

Please don't tell me

One small change can change everything (good or not good)

A break from Disney storyboarding because i just stumbled upon this video and it’s so important because it reinforces the power of small change. And a storyboard allows for identifying, and then either adding or eliminating, small changes that can make something better or detract from it.

Wolves had been gone from Yellowstone for 70 years, when 14 wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone in 1995. This five-minute video is remarkable and astonishing.

Every action we take has a ripple effect.

There are positive ripples and there are less than positive ripples.

The good news is that a positive change can reverse years of poor choices.

The bad news is it works the other way too.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.
