Dear Son

We see things so often we rarely see them anymore

Orlando Eye
i see this iconic ‘Orlando Eye‘ so often i rarely see it.

Recently spoke to a person in the aging and senior adult field.

She said if a person won’t recognize a “problem”, then to that person, the problem doesn’t exist.

i found deep solace in this.

Nothing i say or do will help a Family member because the other person doesn’t, can’t, and won’t see what the rest of us easily see.

Take hoarding for example.

Starting to sense i need to let go

Nursing home resident
i take solace in trying my best.

Starting to sense i need to let go.

i asked the 90-year old, like i always do when we visit, “Are you afraid?”

Carrying a sense of obligation to help him articulate that he’s ok with his situation, even as it deteriorates.

Maybe i’ve tried long enough and hard enough.

Maybe next visit i don’t even mention it or concern myself with it.

It’s worth a try.

Praying for all those who are experiencing a horrifying situation

Teenager's empty bedroom
Had a moment yesterday morning.

Had a stunning moment yesterday at 5:08am.

With our Son on a Washington, DC High School trip, his bed is empty.

There are some routines that are hard to break.

In continuing my morning routine of kissing his head as he sleeps and then getting on bended knees for three morning prayers it hit me…

When tragedy strikes a family, life can change overnight in a way that can haunt you for the rest of your life.

In the horrifying thought of him never being in this bed again, i was reminded why i do that morning routine without fail.

Missing Carter

Memories
Memories

Ever miss something or someone so much that it takes your breath away?

Not wanting to belabor the point, however, yesterday was tough coming home.

You know what I’m talking about. And I was just grieving the loss of a Pet.

Ever wonder what it must be like to try to recover from the loss of a child, perhaps a teenager who is taken away suddenly and tragically?

Today is dedicated to those Families. If you are one of them, or know a Family like this (we know several), please pray for them with all your heart.

We can very likely assume that they are going through a hell that is impossible to imagine. And a hell that may never go away. Ever.
