Siren’s Prayer

Beargrass in Glacier National Park
Beargrass in Glacier National Park, 2019.

Somewhere near 2005 whenever we heard a siren (ambulance or firetruck), i would say an original prayer with the Family. Explaining to our young son that many times an ambulance or firetruck is summoned from an abundance of caution. But the thing is, i told him, sometimes it’s a serious emergency and bad things could happen, and we should pray positive energy and hope in the Family’s direction and for the emergency crews as well.

A siren’s prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, please bless the driver and the helpers with your wisdom and guidance. And please bless the Family or Families with Your Grace, Your Mercy, and Your Never-ending Love.

Don’t let what you can’t do stop you from what you can do.

Adversity reveals character

jeff noel wisdom
KLD on Instagram creates these and they are fun to see.

Adversity reveals character.

Adversity doesn’t develop character, it reveals it.

Last night my final message to our son was this:

Hey, tomorrow, let’s talk about how calm i’ve been in the midst of Covid-19. Most people are panicked, deeply concerned about their future, and literally having anxiety attacks. My whole life has been a slow and steady continuous improvement journey. You would be perfectly normal to be freaked out now, and freaked out because your friends are probably freaked out. Please do not compare where you are with where i am. Sleep on it and we’ll talk tomorrow.

What you are about to read next is what i call clarity, expectations, and accountability – summed up, bluntly, as one of life’s harsh realities. You are the CEO of You, Inc. Everything in your life is your responsibility. To refute this is to live in a closed-mindset, child-adult relationship with your world.

If you aren’t leading yourself well now, you weren’t leading yourself well before Covid-19.

If you were leading yourself well before Covid-19, you are leading yourself well now.

Adversity is showing our true colors as they say.

i am presently unemployed, and probably will be for the rest of the year, so this is a perfect time to panic. But panic isn’t in my vocabulary anymore, and hasn’t been for years.

Meanwhile, i continue to offer hope and personal challenge, as i have my whole life, to anyone who cares to listen.

Catch and release spiders

Our son has taught me to catch and release spiders versus kill them.
tiny baby spider
Chapin released about 20 tiny baby spiders into the backyard from our enclosed pool deck.

Catch and release spiders.

Even the tiniest baby spiders?

Yes.

Why?

Karma, maybe.

Love, maybe.

He was joking

Disney Keynote Speaker
This keynote was only 20 minutes. It’s on You Tube and is packed with activities that kept me off the red circle.

Had to laugh and smile yesterday, Wednesday.

Asked our son to unpack what he meant when he told my wife he was proud of Tuesday’s Disney Customer Service 3-hour workshop.

He was joking.

Obviously, my feedback was, “You shouldn’t joke like that with Mom, because she didn’t know it was a joke.”

And based on the 30-minute debrief we had on the car ride home from the event, on every important client metric, had gave high marks.

He had only seen 60-minute or less keynotes, not the three-hour incredibly interactive session. For example, the audience never had time to fall asleep – too much thinking, doing, sharing, planning – all of it by design.
