Don’t let this stop you

Advent Candles at Church

(photo: Final candle will be lit this morning, December 21, 2014.)

Lectoring this morning, again.

It’s been 15 years.

If we can’t do great things, do little things as if they were big.

Don’t let what we can’t do stop us from doing what we can.

It’s way harder than it looks

Thank you to the generous people who donate their precious time and energy to Youth Ministry.

It’s way harder than it looks.

Volunteered for a few years teaching Catechism to Elementary students. A serious challenge for the inexperienced – and was totally inexperienced.

Had to un-volunteer. Wasn’t equipped to continue. Far too challenging for what little bandwidth remained on Wednesdays 6:45pm – 8:00pm.

How much time, treasure, and talent do we volunteer?

buttons
Giving freely, abundantly, and often makes us smile, and we know this

How much time, treasure, and talent do we volunteer? And where do we spend it?

What’s the payoff?

Do we (should we) even concern ourselves with any ‘payoff’?

Or can we serve simply because in the giving we receive?

Yeah, final answer.

Food For Families annual Thanksgiving morning tradition
Arriving just after 9am, the Families needing help ran out before the food did

Arriving late to volunteer last week was a huge aha moment and blessing. We normally arrive around 8:00am and deliver big boxes of food to needy Families in West Orange County Florida on Thanksgiving morning.

In 14 years, we have never arrived as late as 9:00am, and what we discovered was awesome. The Families ran out before the food did. Hallelujah.

How and where to volunteer is a big question in 2014

Catholic bulletin announcement for readers
After a lifetime of 8:45am Mass, we may be moving

Shortly after becoming a professional speaker in 1999 there was a campaign for parishioners to volunteer their time, talent, and/or treasure.

We were already giving ‘treasure’, so becoming a Catholic Lector seemed reasonable.

What does this mean to anyone else?

Who needs our time, talent, and treasure more?

Our Church or our Family?

Perhaps the volunteering and donating could be for a family member instead of the Church?

Both?

Life is hard.
