Wednesdays Have Been Challenging

Ever make a commitment to volunteer, and do a pretty decent job at fulfilling your promise to yourself and to the others?

Ever stumble and fall, and wonder if you’ll be able to recover?

What do you do? Give up? Keep on keepin’ on?

Tonight will be the first time in weeks I’ve been able to attend Catechism. Traveling as a professional speaker sometimes inhibits the ability to live up to that volunteer commitment – to the teacher and to the children.

There are many lessons to be learned here.

The Ultimate Currency?

Hey Mister, Got A Minute?

“I would gladly stand at a street corner, hat in hand, begging passers-by to drop their wasted hours into it.”Bernard Berenson

Sometimes the hours it costs to volunteer, as a Lector, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, and Catechism teacher, seem too expensive.

And then I’m reminded that volunteering time, to help children and adults become closer to Jesus Christ, is worth ever penny hour.

There will come a time when rest will be eternal. Until then, donate your time as best you can. It’s the ultimate currency.

And these five daily blogs, they are also a donation. But you already knew that.

Time Talent Treasure = Stewardship

Stewardship of Time, Talent and Treasure.

Seems pretty simple. Three things. Important things. Things we all have. Things we can all share.

But do we?

Statistics show that only a small percentage rise above and volunteer in a sacrificial way.

Why? Why not?

Things that make you go, hmmmm……

Volunteering Is A Lifestyle

Didn’t consciously think about this until our son was born in 2000.

In studying human nature, I concluded there were several choices:

  1. Volunteering for things that take you away from your Family
  2. Volunteering for things that do not take you away from your Family
  3. Volunteering for a little of both
  4. Not volunteering

This morning, I’m a Lector at our Church. Once or twice a month I have the privilege to read from the Old Testament or the New Testament.

The (two) Lectors act as God’s voice, and read critical pieces of scripture to the congregation.

Our son sees this every time I volunteer. Visible is good. Carpe diem, jeff noel 🙂
